What is Dry Brushing?
Dry brushing is the process of brushing the body skin with a dry brush without using any water or soap. It is applied with a stiff brush made of natural bristles (horsehair is recommended) and is done in circular motions by applying a certain pressure on the skin.
Benefits of Dry Brushing
Improves Blood Circulation
How does it work?: Dry brushing accelerates blood flow by applying gentle pressure to the top layer of the skin.
Supports the Lymphatic System
How does it work?: The lymphatic system helps to remove toxins from the body. Dry brushing stimulates the lymph nodes, increasing lymph flow and allowing toxins to leave the body faster.
Exfoliates the Skin
How does it work?: Dry brushing removes dead skin cells from the surface of the skin. The skin becomes smoother and softer and cleaner as the pores are opened.
May Reduce the Appearance of Cellulite.
How does it work?: Dry brushing is very effective in reducing the appearance of cellulite by massaging the fat cells under the skin. Regular application can help the skin look firmer and smoother.
Stimulates Skin Regeneration
How does it work?: Exfoliation accelerates the regeneration process of skin cells. This contributes to a younger and fresher looking skin.
Muscle and Nerve Stimulation
How does it work?: Dry brushing stimulates nerve endings, relaxes muscles and provides relaxation.
How to Dry Brush?
Choose the Right Brush
Choose a stiff brush made of natural bristles. You can choose models with or without a handle.
Prepare Your Skin
Make sure your skin is dry. Dry brushing is usually done before showering.
Start with the feet
Brush starting from the feet, moving upwards, towards the heart. It increases blood circulation.
Use Circular and Long Strokes
Brush in circular motions and long sweeping strokes. Avoid pressing too hard; your skin should be slightly pink but not irritated.
Cover the Whole Body
Scrub your entire body, including feet, legs, arms, back and abdomen. Brush the abdominal area in a clockwise circular motion.
Take a Shower
After brushing, take a shower to remove dead skin cells and toxins.
Apply Moisturizer
Moisturize your skin after showering. Maintain skin moisture by using natural oils or moisturizers.
Things to Consider
Sensitive Skin: For sensitive or irritation-prone skin, dry brushing should be done with caution or avoided altogether.
Open Wounds: Do not dry brush cuts, wounds or infected areas.
Avoid Excessive Brushing: Avoid over-brushing as it can irritate the skin. Applying 2-3 times a week may be sufficient.
When practiced correctly and regularly, dry brushing can provide many benefits for skin health and overall body health. However, always make sure to do it according to your skin type and needs.
